A NOTE FROM THE ARTIST OF THE AUSTRALIA MAP
This particular map has been 12 months in the making; almost a year after I started drawing the state maps, I was finally able to sit down and tackle the whole of Australia. It has made for a fascinating cartographic study; unique topography, immense deserts, the soaring Great Dividing Range, diverse vegetation, salt lakes and long coastal areas demonstrate why it is one of the world's most unique corners. I hope I have managed to capture how special it all is on this map!
Each state and territory's main topography, highest mountain peak, geography and cities are all marked, as are Australia's deserts, seas, largest river systems and marine zones. The Great Barrier Reef and the Great Dividing Range are clearly marked to the East, while the centre of the map has been stylised with a special stippling technique to portray the desert regions. The Northern Territory's top end, Cape York Peninsula and much of the Eastern coast demonstrate high vegetation, and South Australia's iconic salt lakes are all inked on too.
As a special nod to Christopher Tolkien, the original cartographer of the Lord of the Rings map, I have drawn this map in a style very reminiscent of his own. I would like to thank everyone who kindly messaged me with a range of suggestions as to important geographical areas and townships needed to be included!
